Storm get London Knights in Western semifinals

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. – The Western Conference semifinals in the Ontario Hockey League are set following a 7-4 victory by the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds over the Owen Sound Attack Friday night.

That win gave Sault Ste. Marie a 4-1 victory in the best-of-seven conference quarter-final. Owen Sound won the series opener and the Greyhounds responded with four consecutive wins.

The other three conference quarter-finals finished in sweeps as the London Knights defeated Windsor Spitfires, Saginaw Spirit eliminated Sarnia Sting and Guelph Storm ousted Kitchener Rangers.

The winning teams finished in the top four spots in the conference at the completion of the regular season with London first, Saginaw second, Sault Ste. Marie third and Guelph fourth.

The Storm and Knights are to meet in the conference semifinals as are the Spirit and Greyhounds. Dates for the series have not been set.

Three of the Eastern Conference quarter-finals are finished as the first-place Ottawa 67’s swept the eighth-place Hamilton Bulldogs 4-0, second-place Niagara IceDogs defeated seventh-place North Bay Battalion 4-1 and fourth-place Sudbury Wolves swept fifth-place Mississauga Steelheads 4-0.

Third-place Oshawa Generals lead sixth-place Peterborough Petes 3-1 with Game 5 Saturday at Oshawa.
