Storm grabs centres first in OHL draft

GUELPH – The Guelph Storm looked for prospects for down the middle of their offence as they selected centres with the first three picks of Saturday’s Ontario Hockey League entry draft.

The Storm took Danil (Danny) Zhilkin from the Toronto Marlboros minor midget AAA squad with the 14th overall pick of the draft.

They followed that with the selection of Jacob Maillet from the Hamilton Junior Bulldogs minor midget AAA squad in the second round, 39th overall.

And it was another centre in the third round as they selected Marko Sikic from the Kitchener Junior Rangers minor midget AAA team 55th overall.

The Storm broke their trend of selecting centres in the fourth round when they picked defenceman Dylan Gratton from the North Jersey Avalanche 16U team 77th overall.

In all, the Storm selected 16 players — 10 forwards, five defencemen and one goaltender.

Their other picks in order of selection were forward Braeden Bowman (Kitchener Junior Rangers minor midget AAA), centre Jack Devine (Chicago Mission 15’s), defenceman Owen Richer (Clarington Toros minor midget AAA), defenceman Declan Ride (Toronto Young Nationals minor midget AAA), forward Nolan Forster (Toronto Marlboros minor midget AAA), forward Camden Daigle (Huron Perth Lakers minor midget AAA), goaltender Dixon Grimes (Guelph Junior Gryphons minor midget AAA), centre Quinn Tavares (Mississauga Reps minor midget AAA), defenceman Austin Clark (Detroit HoneyBaked 16U), forward Ryan Remick (CIH Academy White minor midget AAA), forward Sasha Pastujov (Detroit Compuware U16) and defenceman Evan Roccatani (Toronto Red Wings minor midget AAA).

 

Danny Zhilkin

A 15-year-old, the 6-foot-1, 185-pound Zhilkin had 32 goals and 25 assists in 69 games with the Marlboros this season. He also had two assists in four games in the OHL Cup tournament. Zhilkin was born in Moscow, but he and his family moved to Mississauga due to his hockey aspirations.

 

Jacob Maillet

A 16-year-old from Dundas, the 6-foot, 172-pound Maillet had 14 goals and 23 assists in 32 games with the Junior Bulldogs this season. He also had four goals and three assists in four games in midget AAA and a goal and an assist in three junior B games with the Hamilton Kilty B’s this season.

 

Marko Sikic

A 16-year-old from Kitchener, the 6-foot-2, 170-pound Sikic had 19 goals and 30 assists in 33 games with the Junior Rangers this season.

 

Dylan Gratton

A 16-year-old from Pottstown, Pa., the 6-foot, 157-pound Gratton had 14 goals and 18 assists in 46 games with New Jersey Avalanche this season.

 

Braeden Bowman

A 15-year-old from Kitchener, Bowman stands 6-foot-1 tall and weighs 179 pounds. He had 17 goals and 18 assists in 32 games with the Junior Rangers this season.

He also had three goals and two assists in four games in this year’s OHL Cup.

 

Jack Devine

A 15-year-old from Glencoe, Ill., the 5-foot-9, 157-pound Devine had 14 goals and 26 assists for the Mission this season.

 

Owen Richer

The 16-year-old Richer is from Courtice and he stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 187 pounds. He had five goals and three assists in 36 games with the Toros this season.

 

Declan Ride

The 6-foot-4, 214-pound 16-year-old from Toronto had a goal and 10 assists with the Young Nationals this season.

 

Nolan Forster

A 15-year-old, the 5-foot-10, 159-pound Forster is from Mississauga and he had 15 goals and 30 assists in 72 games with the Marlboros this season.

 

Camden Daigle

A 16-year-old, the 5-foot-7, 149-pound Daigle Is from Stratford and he had 24 goals and 18 assists with the Lakers last season.

 

Dixon Grimes

A 6-foot-3, 208-pound 16-year-old, Grimes was the lone goalie selected by the Storm in this year’s draft. A Belleville native, Grimes had a 3.22 goals-against average in 14 games with the Junior Gryphons this season.

 

Quinn Tavares

A 15-year-old from Mississauga, the 5-foot-5, 128-pound Tavares had 20 goals and 17 assists in 49 games with the Reps this season.

 

Austin Clark

A 15-year-old from Southfield, Mich., Clark had 2 goals and 14 assists in 50 games with HoneyBaked this season. He stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 185 pounds.

 

Ryan Remick

A 15-year-old from Sparta, N.J., the 5-foot-10, 146-pound Remick had 23 goals and 19 assists with CIHA White this season.

 

Sasha Pastujov

A 5-foot-11 15-year-old from Northville, Mich., the 174-pound Pastujov had seven goals and 11 assists in 19 games with Compuware this season.

 

Evan Roccatani

A 5-foot-11, 176-pound 16-year-old from King City, Roccatani had three goals and 12 assists in minor midget and midget AAA play this season. He also had a goal and an assist in the OHL Cup tournament.
