Storm picks and Jr. Gryphons for OHL Gold Cup
GUELPH – Eleven players selected by the Guelph Storm in last weekend’s OHL draft and two players who played with the Guelph Junior Gryphons minor midget AAA team this winter were named to the rosters for the OHL Gold Cup.
An annual event, the OHL Gold Cup attracts the top under-16 players in the province and many will get invitations to the national under-17 selection camp where the Canadian team for the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge will be picked.
The Storm players picked for the tournament are first-rounder Tag Bertuzzi, second-rounder Mason Primeau and third-rounders Anthony Aguanno, Mark Woolley and Dennis Golovatchev.
Forward Bertuzzi was named to the HNO (Northwestern Ontario) team while forwards Primeau, Ty Jackson and Dylan Jackson and defenceman Aguanno were named to the GTHL Red team and forwards Golovatchev and Eric Ciccolini were named to the GTHL Royal Blue team.
Defenceman Woolley was picked to the Alliance team while forward Cole Brady and defenceman Ethan Eliopulos were named to the OMHA White team. Defenceman Clark Hiebert was selected to the OMHA Black team.
Also picked to the OMHA Black team were goaltender Matthew Dunsmoor and forward Matthew Gordon from the Junior Gryphons. Dunsmoor was selected by the Mississauga Steelheads in the OHL draft while Gordon was picked by the Kitchener Rangers.
The OHL Gold Cup is to go May 3 to 7 at Kitchener’s Activa Sportsplex.
