Storm topped by Hamilton in preseason opener

ANCASTER – The Guelph Storm opened their OHL preseason with a 4-2 setback to the Hamilton Bulldogs Friday night at Ancaster’s Morgan Firestone Arena.

Ben Garagan, Connor McMichael, Mackenzie Entwistle and Marian Studenic scored for the Bulldogs who outshot the 29-27.

Barret Kirwan and Tag Bertuzzi had the goals for Guelph.

After a scoreless first period, Hamilton grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second and added to it with a goal early in the third.

However, the Storm fought back to narrow the score to a single goal with just under one minute to play before the Bulldogs added an empty-netter with nine seconds to go to complete the scoring.

Nico Daws was in net for the Storm who suited up seven rookies for the contest.

The game was the first of three preseason games for the Storm on the holiday weekend. The other two are against the Mississauga Steelheads as they’re to play Saturday at Mississauga at 7 p.m. and Monday at the Sleeman Centre at 2 p.m.

The Storm are to open their regular season Sept. 22 with a game against the Sarnia Sting at the Sleeman Centre. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
