Storm’s second-period scoring drops Flint

FLINT, Mich. – The Guelph Storm struck for four goals in the second period as they dropped the Flint Firebirds 6-2 in Ontario Hockey League play Saturday night at the Dort Federal Event Center.

The Storm never trailed in the game as they scored the only goal of the first period and led 5-1 at the end of the second.

Keegan Stevenson scored the first two goals of the game for the Storm while Tag Bertuzzi, Isaac Ratcliffe, Nate Schnarr and Mark Woolley followed with single goals. Domenico Commisso and Ratcliffe each had two assists while Liam Hawel, Jack Hanley, Owen Lalonde, Dmitri Samorukov, Daniil Chayka, Ryan Merkley and Mason Primeau each had one assist.

Ty Dellandrea and Jacob Winterton responded with single goals for Flint while Lucas Rowe and Kyle Harris each collected one assist.

The Storm outshot the Firebirds 35-23 including a 26-14 advantage after the first period.

Guelph also scored on its only power play and held Flint scoreless on four power plays.

Nico Daws had 21 saves for the win in the Storm net while Luke Cavallin made 29 saves in the Flint net.

The Storm (4-1-1-0) and Kitchener Rangers (4-0-1-0) lead the Midwest Division while Flint is fifth in the West Division with six losses in six outings.

The win was the fourth in a row for the Storm who are to host the Owen Sound Attack (3-4-0-0) Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the first game of their first 3-in-3 weekend of the season. They’re also to play the Sarnia Sting (3-3-0-0) at Sarnia’s Progressive Auto Sales Arena Saturday at 7:05 p.m. and host the London Knights (3-2-0-0) Oct. 14 at 2 p.m.
