Stratford nets four in a row to topple Canes

STRATFORD – The Guelph Hurricanes surrendered four consecutive goals as they were doubled 4-2 by the Stratford Warriors in Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League play Friday night at Stratford’s Allman Arena.

The Canes scored the only goal of the first period before Stratford responded with four goals in a row, two in the second period. Guelph completed the scoring with a goal with 48 seconds to play.

Bradley Smith and Alexander Trenton scored for the Canes while Braydon Munn and Smith each had an assist.

Graham Brulotte was involved in all four goals for the Warriors as he scored one of them and assisted on the other three. Addison Macey, Jack Scanlan and Curtis Abbott also scored a goal apiece while single assists were awarded to Dylan Lebold, Corson Searles, Scanlan and Ryan Nicholson.

The teams took 31 shots apiece while Stratford went 2-for-5 on the power play and held the Canes scoreless on three power plays.

Jet Greaves took the loss in the Canes net while Andrew Vigliatore picked up the win for Stratford.

The loss was the sixth consecutive setback for the Canes. They’re sixth in the Midwestern Conference at 6-8-1-2 while Stratford is second at 12-2-0-0.

The Canes are to play the division-leading Listowel Cyclones (13-3-0-0) Saturday at the Sleeman Centre. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
