Thistles begin playoffs Monday at Elora

FERGUS – The Fergus Thistles will have home-floor advantage in their best-of-three Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League West Division quarter-final with the Oakville Buzz.

The Thistles finished fourth in the division at 9-6-1 while Oakville was fifth at 8-7-1.

Oakville’s 7-3 loss to the Brantford Warriors Thursday left the Buzz in fifth and was their second consecutive loss as they were beaten 16-7 by the Six Nations Warriors Sunday at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena.

Fergus and Oakville met twice during the regular season and the Thistles won both games – 15-11 at Elora May 11 and 11-4 at Oakville June 2.

The Buzz completed their regular season with six games in 10 days while the Thistles had one game during that time, a 14-9 win over the Caledon Bandits at Caledon last Friday.

All 16 teams in the league qualify for the playoffs. The divisional semifinals and divisional final are best-of-five affairs while the league final Meredith Cup championship series will be a best-of-seven.

The Fergus-Oakville series is to start Monday at the Elora and District Community Centre. Game time is 8 p.m.

Dates for the other games of the series have not been announced.
