Thistles dropped by Six Nations in chippy match

HAGERSVILLE – Four unanswered goals in the third period secured a 14-8 victory for the Six Nations Warriors over the Fergus Thistles in Ontario junior C lacrosse league play Saturday at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena.

The teams were tied 5-5 at the end of the first period before Six Nations took a 10-8 lead by the end of the second.

Brett Harrison and McCaiden Dixon had two goals each for Fergus while the other goals were scored by Kyle Deitweiler, Carson Stevenson, Justin Beaulieu and Logan Cameron. Trent Spear and Beaulieu collected two assists apiece while Adam Lantz, Jacob Hayne, Louie Ristov, Ryan Litt and Deitweiler each had one assist.

Shane Henry and Jon Parry-Smith struck for hat trick for Six Nations while Jaxon Martin and Jordan Myke each had two goals and Bryson Staats, Tehas Powless, Trey Jimmerson and Matt Miller added single goals. Powless gathered four assists while Landon General, Riley Hess, Bryson Staats, Jimmerson and Parry-Smith had two each and Tyrese Staats, Todd Thomas Jr., Myke, Emmitt Smith, Josh Daley and Martin had one each.

The match was a chippy one and featured 337 minutes in penalties including 25 misconducts that accounted for 10 minutes apiece. There were also five major penalties.

Shots on goal were not kept.

The Thistles went 0-for-8 on their power play while Six Nations went 5-for-15.

The win was the second in as many outings for Six Nations while the loss dropped the Thistles to 1-2-0.

The Thistles are to begin a stretch of three consecutive home games Friday when they’re to host the Oakville Buzz (1-0-0) at the Elora and District Community Centre starting at 8 p.m. They’re also to play the Mimico Mountaineers (2-1-0) Sunday at 7 p.m. and Brantford Warriors (1-2-0) May 15 at 8 p.m., those two games set to be played at the Centre Wellington Sportsplex.
