Three in first starts Meaford to win over Force

MEAFORD – The Fergus Force surrendered three goals in the first period as they suffered a 7-3 loss to the Meaford Knights in Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League play Thursday night at the Meaford and St. Vincent Community Centre.

Meaford led 3-1 at the end of the first period before the Force scored the only goal of the second.

Fergus is looking for its first on-ice win in its inaugural season in the league. The Force is 1-15-0-0, but the win was by default after the Wiarton Schooners withdrew from the league. Meaford is sixth in the North Division at 10-5-0-3.

Kinsly Trivisonno, Justin Bryenton and Mathew Soules had a goal apiece for Fergus while assists were awarded to Shawn Marson, Sean Caruso, Soules and Kyle Lewis.

Hampus Wall netted a pair of goals for Meaford while Will Vernon, Chase Lewis, Jeff Hyndman, David Hooper and Mitchell Bolduc scored once each. Connor Long and Callum Queenan each had two assists while Brandon Farrell, Colton Langowski, Eric Lowry, Tyler Strutz, Justin Pereira, Owen Tichbourne, Wall and Skylar Robertson had one each.

Meaford outshot Fergus 49-23. Gilbert Oldrieve took the loss in the Fergus net. He had 42 saves. Graeme Gemmill was the winning netminder for Meaford. The Force went 1-for- 6 on their power play while Meaford was scoreless on five power plays.

The Force and Knights are to play again Sunday at the Centre Wellington Sportsplex. Game time is 3 p.m.
