Tri-County title for Junior Gryphons minor bantam AAs

GUELPH – The Guelph Junior Gryphons captured the Tri-County Minor Hockey League’s Bowen AA minor bantam championship Sunday at the West End arena with a 4-1 victory over Oakville Rangers Two.

That win gave the Junior Gryphs a 6-4 triumph in the six-point championship series.

Every game in the series was won by the home team.

The Junior Gryphs took the opener 5-2 March 12 and Oakville responded with a 4-2 win in Game 2 March 15.

The locals claimed a 5-4 win in the third game March 19 and Oakville came back March 23 with a 3-2 win in Game 4.

The Junior Gryphs advanced to the championship series by finishing atop its pool in the opening round. Guelph went 5-1-0 in that round as the Junior Gryphs defeated Milton 7-2, Flamborough 7-0, Stoney Creek 2-0, Garden City Minor 2-0 and Burlington Blue 4-1 and they lost 2-0 to Burlington Blue.

Oakville Two also went 5-1-0 in their round-robin pool.

The Junior Gryphs finished the regular season in fifth at 15-10-3 while Oakville Two was 10th at 10-14-4.
