Trio in second give Patriots win over Mitchell

MITCHELL – Three goals in the second period sparked the Mount Forest Patriots to a 4-1 victory over the Mitchell Hawks in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Friday night at the Elma Logan arena.

The Patriots had scored the only goal of the first period while all the scoring in the game was complete by the end of the second.

Jack Francis, Blair Butchart, Ryley Cribbin and Luke Hoelscher had a goal apiece for the Patriots while Cribbin also had two assists. Single assists were given to Shawn Lantz, Derek Williams and Troy Weber.

Derek Elliott scored for Mitchell with assists going to Dalton Smith and MacKinnon Hawkins.

The Patriots outshot the Hawks 45-29, but were scoreless on four power plays. Mitchell went 1-for-7 on its power play.

David Lobsinger picked up the win in net for Mount Forest while Tyler Parr took the loss for Mitchell.

The Patriots and Walkerton Hawks are tied for first in the Pollock Division with 34 points apiece. Mount Forest is at 17-4-0-0 while Walkerton is at 16-3-1-1.

Mitchell is fifth at 11-10-1-1.

Next up for the Patriots is a game against Walkerton Dec. 2 at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex. Game time is 8 p.m.
