Undefeated field hockey Gryphons slip by Toronto
TORONTO — The Guelph Gryphons scored with a minute to go to edge the Toronto Varsity Blues 4-3 in OUA women’s field hockey play Saturday morning at the U of T’s Back Campus Fields.
Toronto led 2-1 at halftime before the Gryphs scored a pair of goals a minute apart to grab the lead early in the second half.
After Toronto tied it four minutes later, the deadlock stood until Olivia Finch struck for the winner for the Gryphs.
Katherine MacMillan, Emily Hong and Olivia Lane scored the other goals for Guelph.
Lauren Sudac, Morgan Sleeth and Rachel Spouge had a goal apiece for Toronto.
The result leaves the Gryphs as the only undefeated squad in the seven-team league. The Gryphs lead the standings at 4-0-0 while Toronto is second at 3-1-0 and the York Lions third at 2-1-0.
Guelph is to play the McGill Martlets (0-1-0) Sunday afternoon at Toronto.
