Westside moves to top of D4 soccer loop on opening day

GUELPH – Westside Thunder gabbed the early lead in the District 4 high school girls’ soccer league with a pair of victories Wednesday during opening day at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.

Westside defeated the Norwell Varsity Reds 3-0 and edged the Emmanuel Christian Eagles 2-1 as all four of the league’s teams participated in opening-day action.

The other games saw Emmanuel Christian top Centre Dufferin 2-0 and Norwell beat the Royals 3-0.

Mackayla McBride had a pair of goals for Westside while Regan Scott scored the other one.

 

Westside 2 Emmanuel Christian 1

Regan Scott hit for both goals for Westside and Nicole Vandermeulen replied for Emmanuel Christian.

 

Emmanuel Christian 2 Centre Dufferin 0

Hannah Medemblik and Julie Selles struck for a goal apiece for Emmanuel Christian and Suz Vandermeulen picked up the shutout.

 

Norwell 3 Centre Dufferin 0

Kelsey Walker, Cassidy Burnett and Taylor Sykes had a goal apiece for Norwell. The blank sheet was shared by Mia Landry and Brookelyn Butchart.
