Wickens on front row for Indycar Grand Prix
INDIANAPOLIS – Robert Wickens of Guelph will start Saturday’s Indycar Grand Prix, the road course event at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, from the front row.
Wickens was second fastest in Friday’s third round, the Firestone Fast Six, for the Verizon Indycar Series event.
Wickens qualified at 125.604 mph, bettered only by 0.157 mph by pole-sitter Will Power.
Sebastien Bourdais is to start third and James Hinchcliffe, Wickens’ teammate and fellow Canadian, is to start fourth.
A total of 24 drivers are to compete in Saturday’s race.
The race is the first of the speedway’s two Indycar Series events this month. The other is the Indianapolis 500 which is set for May 27. Wickens passed his rookie test for the classic oval race May 1.
