Windsor’s quick goals good for slim win over Storm

GUELPH – A pair of second-period goals 46 seconds apart by the Windsor Spitfires did in the Guelph Storm in Ontario Hockey League play Friday night at the Sleeman Centre.

Those goals gave Windsor a 2-1 victory.

Guelph’s goal, a power-play marker by Ryan Merkley, came at 18:14 of the third period. Garrett McFadden and Isaac Ratcliffe picked up assists.

Daniel D’Amico had opened the scoring for Windsor at 11:20 of the second period and Aaron Luchuk fired in the other goal at 12:06 of the second.

William Sirman, Sean Day, Austin McEneny and Igor Larionov had assists for Windsor.

The Storm outshot the Spitfires 46-28 and went 1-for-6 on their power play while Windsor was scoreless on its only power play.

Michael DiPietro picked up the win in net for the Spitfires while Anthony Popovich took the loss for the Storm.

The loss drops Guelph to 2-2-0-1 while Windsor improves to 4-1-1-0 with the win.

The Storm is to be back on the ice in league play Saturday when they’re to host the Kitchener Rangers (4-1-1-0) at 4 p.m. at the Sleeman Centre.
