Wolverines advance to senior hoops final

MOUNT FOREST – The Wellington Heights Wolverines grabbed the remaining berth in Monday’s District 4 high schools senior girls’ basketball championship with a 47-19 victory over the Norwell Varsity Reds Wednesday.

Dannika Bauman led the Wolverines with 12 points while Mikaela Dagelinckx added nine.

Becca Martin had seven for Norwell.

The Wolverines are to host the Emmanuel Christian Eagles in Monday’s final at 2:30 p.m.

The Wolverines and Eagles met twice during the regular season and split those games with the visiting team winning both times. Wellington Heights won 35-23 at Fergus Oct. 4 and Emmanuel Christian prevailed 39-28 at Mount Forest Oct. 23.

That the Wolverines won by one more point than Emmanuel Christian won by gave Wellington Heights the right to host the final as the teams had tied for first with 9-1 records.

 

JUNIOR

Wellington Heights will also the junior final Monday after the Wolverines and Centre Dufferin Royals posted wins in Wednesday’s semifinals. The junior final is to follow the senior final at 4 p.m.

The Wolverines and Royals split their regular-season matches, each winning at home. Wellington Heights won 38-36 at Mount Forest Oct. 2 and the Royals won 31-16 at Shelburne Oct. 25.

The Wolverines finished first at 7-1 and Centre Dufferin was second at 6-2.

Nina Rodrigues had 12 points for Wellington Heights.

Morgan McLean netted eight for Erin.

 

Centre Dufferin 47 Westside 32

Shannon Bury hit for 17 points for Centre Dufferin while Franny McGowan collected 12.

Jaime Wright had 11 for Westside.
