Gryphon hockey men blanked by Laurier
WATERLOO – The losing streak for the Guelph Gryphons reached five games Thursday as they dropped a 2-0 decision to the Laurier Golden Hawks in OUA men’s hockey play at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex.
The Golden Hawks scored single goals in the first and third periods and goaltender Laurier Tyler Fassl stopped all 42 shots fired his way.
Mac Clutsam and Jeremy Pullara scored the goals while assists were awarded to Lucas Batt, Christian Mroczkowski and Michael Silveri.
Evan Cormier stopped 27 shots in the Gryphon net.
Both teams were scoreless on their power plays, Guelph on three and Laurier on four.
The result leaves the Gryphs, Laurier and Waterloo Warriors in a three-way tie for eighth in the 10-team West Division. Laurier’s at 3-7-0-0 while the other two are each at 2-6-2-2.
The Gryphs and Warriors are to play Saturday at Waterloo’s Columbia Ice Fields arena. Game time is 7 p.m.
