Ross Royals stretch unbeaten streak in field hockey
GUELPH – The Ross Royals clinched a first-place finish in District 4/10 high school girls’ field hockey with a pair of shutout victories Wednesday at Varsity Field on the final day of the regular season.
Ross blanked the Orangeville Bears 4-0 and Centre Wellington Falcons 2-0.
Acacia Douglas-Henke recorded the shutouts in net in both games.
Abby Auger, Anna Swackhammer, Kennedy Queen and Leah Penner scored once each in the win over Orangeville.
Queen and Auger had the goals in the game against Centre Wellington.
Ross finished atop the standings at 6-0-1 while GCVI was a close second at 6-1-0. They’re followed by Orangeville at 4-2-1, Centennial and Centre Dufferin both at 2-3-2, Bishop Macdonell and Centre Wellington both at 2-4-1 and Wellington Heights at 0-7-0.
Wednesday’s win stretched Ross’s undefeated streak in D4/10 regular-season play to 25 games. The Royals, who have won the league title each of the past three years, haven’t lost in league action since Oct. 5, 2016.
This year’s playoffs are to start Wednesday with quarter-final matches at Varsity Field and Ross.

Alyssa Wolf had a hat trick for Centennial while Olivia Downey, Gabby Durst and Lea Diaz Davonte added single goals. Kassi Hogan had the shutout.
Guelph CVI 4 Wellington Heights 0
GCVI received two goals from Sara Michael and one each from Maggie Smart and Rebecca Lenki.
Guelph CVI 2 Centennial 1
Sara Michael and Maggie Smart connected for a goal apiece for GCVI.
Gabby Durst had the goal for Centennial.
Centre Dufferin 2 Bishop Macdonell 0
Jordan Smith and Katie Galbraith tallied for Centre Dufferin while Shannan Armstrong picked up the shutout.
Centre Wellington 3 Orangeville 3
Ella Chase had a pair of goals for Centre Wellington while Madison Bender also scored.
Scoring single goals for Orangeville were Mai Chin, Sarah Innes and Sophie Sullivan.
