
Union dropped by Vaughan for first loss of season
VAUGHAN – Guelph Union suffered their first setback of the League1 Ontario Women’s Premier soccer season Sunday as they were dropped 4-0 by Vaughan Azzurri at North Maple Regional Park.
Union had won their two previous league outings.

The goals by Vaughan were the first scored against Union as the two previous wins were shutout victories. It was Vaughan’s third shutout victory in as many outings and they’ve outscored their opposition 13-0 in those three games.
Sunday, Vaughan opened the scoring with a goal with a minute left in the first half’s regulation time. They added three goals in the second half, the first two coming in the first 13 minutes of the half.
Leah Pais scored a natural hat trick – three consecutive goals – for Vaughan while Nicole Lovisotto scored the fourth and final goal 28 minutes into the second half.
Ava Perrone picked up the shutout win for Vaughan while Rachel Yerxa was tagged with the loss for Union.
Next up for Union is a home game against BVB IA Waterloo (3-0-0) Sunday at Alumni Stadium.

Guelph Union 2 opened their Women’s Reserve season with a 1-0 victory over Whitecaps London at London’s Citywide Park.
The goal scorer was not reported.
Union 2 is to play BVB IA Waterloo B (0-0-1) at Waterloo’s RIM Park Wednesday at 9 p.m.
