81’s and Saugeen Shores playoff opener postponed

PORT ELGIN – The Mapleton-Minto 81’s and Saugeen Shores Winterhawks will have to wait a little longer to get their Western Ontario Athletic Association senior men’s hockey league’s AA quarter-final playoff series started.

It was to have started Friday night at Port Elgin, but road closures and poor weather conditions forced that game’s postponement.

The best-of-seven series is now to start Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Palmerston arena.

Saugeen Shores finished the regular season in fourth in the 14-team league at 14-7-0-1, two point ahead of the fifth-place 81’s (12-7-2-1).

The Winterhawks took both meetings between the teams in the regular season, winning 7-6 in a shootout at Palmerston Nov. 10 and 5-2 at Port Elgin Dec. 9.
