81’s blanked by Ripley in semifinal opener

RIPLEY – The Ripley Wolves opened their Western Ontario Athletic Association senior men’s AA hockey semifinal series with a 6-0 blanking of the Minto 81’s at the Ripley arena Saturday night.

After a scoreless first period, Ripley tallied four times in the second and added a pair of goals in the third.

Pat Looby had a natural hat trick for Ripley as he scored the final three goals of the game. Tyson Soers, Jordan Turcotte and J.D. Falconer had the other goals. Ben Hughes had three assists while Falconer had two and Cody Britton, Garrett Meurs, Adam Alexander, Keaton Willis, Gerrit Satosek, Kevin Boyd and Jason Hamilton each had one.

Jason Hamilton had 26 saves for the shutout while Minto’s Marc Williams had 31 saves.

Ripley had finished the regular season in first place at 19-3-0-0 while Minto was seventh at 13-8-0-1.

Second game of the best-of-seven series is set for Sunday at 8 p.m. at the Palmerston arena.
