81’s double Rocks to finish their regular season

PALMERSTON – The Mapleton-Minto 81’s completed their regular-season schedule in the Western Ontario Athletic Association’s senior AA men’s hockey league with a 6-3 victory over the Elora Rocks Sunday at the Palmerston arena.

The teams were tied 1-1 at the end of the first period before the 81’s grabbed a 4-2 lead by the end of the second.

Collin Hartwick had a pair of goals for M-M while Adam Kawalec, Tommy Hoogaars, Brody Lemay and Brendon Aitken also scored. Kawalec and Lemay each had two assists while Riley O’Connell, Hartwick, Kyle Ellis, Aitken, Chris Hardie and Drew Shantz had one each.

Stevie Alvo, Henry McNeil and Russell Jefferies scored for Elora while Chad Herron assisted on two of the goals. Getting one assist apiece were Spencer Gourlay, Lyam Cripps, Kevin Tuckey and Graham Kitching.

Marc Williams collected the win in net for the 81’s while Craig Byford was tagged with the loss in the Elora net.

The 81’s are fifth in the 14-team league at 12-7-2-1 while Elora is 11th at 9-11-1-0 with a game to go against the Tavistock Royals who are seventh at 12-8-1-0.

M-M will finish in the top eight and participate in the league’s AA playoffs while Elora will finish in the bottom six and play in the A playoffs.

The Rocks are to complete their season with the game against Tavistock Friday at 8:30 p.m. at the Elora and District Community Centre.
