81’s drop Tillsonburg to climb to fourth

TILLSONBURG – The Mapleton-Minto 81’s moved to fourth place in the Western Ontario Athletic Association standings with a 9-5 victory over the Tillsonburg Thunder Saturday night at the Tillsonburg Memorial arena.

The teams were tied 1-1 at the end of the first period before the 81’s outscored Tillsonburg 4-2 in both the second and third periods.

Brady Anderson and Kyle Ellis scored twice apiece for M-M while single goals were netted by Riley O’Connell, Denver Hill, John Adams, Gavin Apperson and Brody Lemay.

Zach Vanlouwe had two goals for Tillsonburg and Braden Roberts, Corbin Bean and Michael Rebry had one each.

The win lifts the 81’s to 9-4-2-1, good for 21 points, while Tillsonburg is ninth at 8-8-0-0. M-M has a game in hand on third-place Durham Thundercats (10-4-1-2).

The game was also the first of three consecutive road games for the 81’s. They’re to play the Clinton Radars (15-1-0-0) at the Central Huron Community Centre Friday at 8:30 p.m. and the Elora Rocks (7-8-1-0) at the Elora and District Community Centre Jan. 4 at 8:30 p.m.
