81’s give up four goals in third to be doubled by Clinton
PALMERSTON – The Minto 81’s yielded four goals in the third period as they were doubled 8-4 by the Clinton Radars Saturday night in their WOAA Senior Men’s Hockey League home opener at the Palmerston arena.
The teams had been tied 1-1 at the end of the first period and the 81’s shot ahead early in the second before Clinton scored three in a row to lead 4-2 at the end of the second.
The 81’s cut the gap to a single goal early in the third, but Clinton rallied with its four goals in the third period coming in the final 10 and a half minutes of the period.
Jake Pleon, Drew Shantz, Collin Hartwick and Adam Kawawlec each scored a goal for Minto while Chris Hardie and Tyler Harrison had two assists apiece and Austin Gaboury, Brady Anderson, Denver Hill and Wade Pfeffer had one each.
Max Campbell had two goals and two assists for the Radars while Ben VanOoteghem and Kurtis Bartliff each had a goal and three assists. Ryan Watson, Sean Consit and Cullen Mercer each had a goal and an assist and Tyler Bryson scored the other goal. Matt Knight-Bedour had two assists and Ray Huether had one.
Greg Dodds picked up the win in the Clinton net while Marc Williams took the loss for Minto.
The loss was the second in as many league outings for the 81’s while the game was the season opener for Clinton.
The 81’s are to play the Shelburne Muskies (2-0-0) at Shelburne’s Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex Saturday. Game time is 8 p.m.
