81’s, Saugeen Shores to start AA playoffs Friday night

PALMERSTON – The Mapleton-Minto 81’s and the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks are to begin their best-of-seven Western Ontario Athletic Association senior men’s hockey league’s AA quarter-final playoff series Friday night at Port Elgin.

The league’s AA playoffs involve the teams that finished in the top eight at the conclusion of the regular season.

Saugeen Shores was fourth at 14-7-0-1 while M-M was fifth at 12-7-2-1.

The teams met twice during the regular season and Saugeen Shores won both as the Winterhawks prevailed 7-6 in a shootout at the Palmerston arena Nov. 10 and 5-2 at Port Elgin Dec. 9.

Opening game in the series has a game time of 8:30 p.m.

Second game is scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Palmerston arena.

Game 3 is to be played at Port Elgin Feb. 15 at 8:30 p.m. while Game 4 is to go at Palmerston Feb. 17 at 2 p.m.

The fifth, sixth and seventh games of the series will be played only if they’re needed.

Game 5 is scheduled for Feb. 22 at Port Elgin starting at 8:30 p.m.

Game 6 is set for the Listowel arena Feb. 23 at 8:30 p.m.

Game 7 is slated for Feb. 24 at Port Elgin. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
