All-QMJHL Memorial Cup final as Storm knocked out

HALIFAX – The Memorial Cup final will be an all-Quebec Major Junior Hockey League affair Sunday night after the Ontario Hockey League champion Guelph Storm fell 6-4 to the QMJHL champion Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in Friday’s semifinal at Halifax’s Scotiabank Centre.

Rouyn-Noranda scored three times in the third period to oust the Storm who had held 2-1 and 3-2 leads.

The teams were tied 2-2 at the end of the first period and 3-3 after the second.

Isaac Ratcliffe tallied twice for the Storm while Jack Hanley and Cedric Ralph also scored. MacKenzie Entwistle and Nick Suzuki each had two assists while Alexey Toropchenko, Nate Schnarr, Zachary Roberts and Hanley had one apiece.

Félix Bibeau scored two of the goals for Rouyn-Noranda while single goals were added by Alex Beaucage, Joël Teasdale, Tyler Hinam and Rafaël Harvey-Pinard. Jakub Lauko and Harvey-Pinard each had two assists and Noah Dobson and Peter Abbandonato had one apiece.

Rouyn-Noranda outshot the Storm 39-38 and scored on their only power play while the Storm was scoreless on two power plays. The Storm won 34 of the 60 faceoffs in the game.

Anothony Popovich had 33 saves in the Storm net while Samuel Harvey had 34 for Rouyn-Noranda.

The Huskies advance to Sunday’s 7 p.m. final against the host and QMJHL finalist Halifax Mooseheads.
