Anderson’s goal in double OT pushes 81’s into AA semifinals

PALMERSTON – Brady Anderson’s goal late in the second overtime period lifted the Minto 81’s to a 3-2 victory over the Shelburne Muskies Sunday at the Palmerston arena to gain a berth in the Western Ontario Athletic Association senior men’s AA hockey league semifinals.

Shelburne had scored the lone goal of the first period while Minto had the only goal of the second. The 81’s scored early in the third while the Muskies netted the equalizer with just over two and a half minutes to go in regulation time.

Anderson’s winning goal came 17:06 into the second overtime period.

The win gave the 81’s a 4-2 victory in the best-of-seven series.

Adam Kawawlec and Jordan Delaurier scored the other goals for Minto while Zach Graham, Tyler Harrison, Tommy Hoogaars and Francois Cote each had an assist.

Trevor Vanalstine and Josh Sguigna netted the regulation-time goals for Shelburne. Assists went to Sguigna, Jamie Bennett and Blake Lovell.

Shots on goal were not reported.

Marc Williams collected the win in net for Minto while Malcolm Young was tagged with the loss.

The 81’s are awaiting an opponent in the AA semifinals. Tillsonburg Thunder and Clinton Radars have also won their quarter-final series while Durham Thundercats and Ripley Wolves are tied 3-3 with the seventh game set for Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. at Ripley.
