Another football playoff doubleheader for Junior Gryphons

GUELPH – The Guelph Junior Gryphons are scheduled to have another Ontario Provincial Football League playoff doubleheader at Alumni Stadium Saturday.

The Junior Gryphons are to tangle with the Woodstock Wolverines in a regional bantam semifinal at 3 p.m.

Woodstock and Guelph are also to meet in a regional junior varsity semifinal at 6 p.m.

The Junior Gryphs finished first in the regional bantam South Division with a 7-1-0 record while Woodstock was second at 6-2-0. The teams split their regular-season meetings on back-to-back weekend with the Junior Gryphs winning 32-15 at Alumni Stadium June 9 and the Wolverines winning 42-19 at Woodstock six days later.

Guelph and Woodstock were also first and second respectively in the South Division of the regional junior varsity league. The Junior Gryphs finished at 7-1-0 and Woodstock finished at 5-2-0. The Junior Gryphs and Wolverines met once during the regular season and Guelph prevailed 35-14 at Woodstock June 29.

Saturday’s winners advance to the OPFL’s Championship Weekend where they’ll play the North Division champions at Western University’s TD Stadium in London Aug. 4.

The York Region Lions are to host the Orangeville Outlaws in the regional bantam North Division final Saturday while the Sudbury Spartans are to host York Region in Saturday’s regional junior varsity North Division final.
