Another Friday win over Owen Sound for Storm
GUELPH – The Guelph Storm struck for two goals in the first three minutes of the game for a 6-1 win over the Owen Sound Attack in Ontario Hockey League play Friday night at the Sleeman Centre.
It was the second consecutive Friday night home victory over Owen Sound for the Storm as they had won 5-2 a week earlier. It was also the fourth home victory over the Attack this season, all four wins coming on Friday nights.
Guelph and Owen Sound have played three times at Owen Sound and the Attack have won all three. They’re to play in Owen Sound one more time on March 9.
Friday, the Storm had scored twice in the first period and pulled away in the second.
Owen Sound netted the only goal of the third period as Andrew Perrott scored with 61 seconds to go in the game. That was the only shot of the 30 faced by Storm goaltender Anthony Popovich that he didn’t stop.
Liam Hawel, Sean Durzi, Fedor Gordeev, MacKenzie Entwistle, Keegan Stevenson and Dmitri Samorukov each had a goal for the Storm. Nate Schnarr and Steven Grant collected two assists each and Samorukov, Markus Phillips, Hawel, Nick Suzuki and Isaac Ratcliffe had one apiece.
Barret Kirwin and Nolan Seed drew assists on Perrott’s goal.
Andrew MacLean started in net for the Attack, but he was pulled after just less than three minutes after giving up the first two goals. Mack Guzda played the rest of the first and the second before MacLean returned for the third. MacLean had 13 saves and Guzda had 15.
The win for the Storm was their sixth in eight games while the loss was the sixth in a row for Owen Sound.
The Storm (25-13-4-4) is second in the Midwest Division and fourth in the Western Conference while Owen Sound (22-20-2-2) is third in the division and fifth in the conference.
The Storm is to play the Erie Otters () at the Erie Insurance Arena Saturday at 7 p.m.
