Another tripleheader sweep in rugby for Ross

GUELPH – The Ross Royals added another tripleheader sweep as they defeated the Erin Raiders in District 4/10 high school rugby play in the senior boys, junior boys and girls leagues.

The wins leave the Royals undefeated and atop the senior and junior boys leagues. The girls’ game didn’t count in the standings as it was a cross-over game with the Royals in Pool B and the Raiders in Pool A.

Both Ross boys’ teams are 3-0-0 and the girls are 2-0-0.


Senior Boys

Ross 40 Erin 12

Jon Howie scored three tries for Ross while Alex Coole scored two and Calvin Fogler kicked five converts. Arman Moghadasi also had a try.

Malcolm Alderice collected all 12 points for Erin with two tries and a convert.

The Raiders are at 2-1-0.


Centre Dufferin 29 Centennial 22

Centre Dufferin received single tries from Aidan Oliver, Ethan Mecili, Hudson Duck, Sam Gayle and Tejay Matthews while Ben Callegari added two converts.

Dan Brown had two tries for Centennial and Liam Oakley and Andres Bravo had one apiece. Rolland Ross kicked a convert.

The win was the first of the season for Centre Dufferin as they’re at 1-2-0 and Centennial’s at 0-3-0.


Junior Boys

Ross 80 Erin 0

Max Nixon led Ross with 26 points while Codi Smith had 24, Ty Dokis 10 and Ethan Huether and Drake Mugford five apiece. The identity of the other two scorers, who each had a try, was not available.

The loss left Erin at 0-3-0.


Centre Dufferin 24 Guelph CVI 22

Centre Dufferin kept pace with Ross with the win. Abel Sales, Brady Marshall, Tucker Cunnington and Warren Swidersky each had a try for Centre Dufferin while Aidan Mackenzie kicked two converts.

Blake Forester scored three tries for GCVI while Casey Long scored one and Ben Schmit added a convert.

The result leaves Centre Dufferin at 3-0-0 and GCVI at 0-3-0.



Ross 97 Erin 0

Anna Bernardi, Abby Auger and Saneika Patterson each had three tries for Ross while Olivia Sarabura had one try and three converts. B. Mullin scored two tries while single tries were added by Sammie Slater, Michelle Hopkins, C. Robinson, Drue Costello and Emma Capper. Stephanie Svaikauskas kicked two converts and M. Bauer kicked one.

Erin is 2-0-0 in Pool A play.
