
Argos kick by Ticats in preseason match in Guelph
GUELPH – Boris Bede’s 33-yard field goal on the final play of the game lifted the Toronto Argonauts to an 18-17 victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in CFL preseason play Friday night at Alumni Stadium.
The game was the final regular-season tune-up for both teams and also brought the Argos’ training camp on the University of Guelph campus to an end.

The field goal was Bede’s fourth of the game as he had also connected from 21 yards in the first quarter and 25 and 18 yards in the second quarter. He also missed from 47 yards in the second quarter and 52 yards almost two minutes prior to his winning kick.
The game was close throughout and the Ticats led 7-3 at the end of the first quarter, 10-9 at halftime and 16-15 at the end of the third quarter.
Hamilton’s Lawrence Woods opened the scoring at 6:16 of the first quarter when he returned a punt 99 yards for a touchdown. Michael Domagala conveted the play.
After Bede hit two of his field goals, Seth Small kicked a 51-yarder for the Ticats with 49 seconds to go in the opening half.
Bede added his third field goal of the game with two seconds to go until halftime.
The teams traded unconverted TDs in the third quarter. Isiah Wright caught a six-yard pass from Chad Kelly for Toronto midway through the quarter while quarterback Jamie Newman and receiver Anthony Johnson hit on a 34-yard scoring play with just over three minutes to go in the quarter.
The Argos conceded a single with 6:13 to go in the game after a 56-yard punt by Hamilton’s Joel Whitford.
Toronto finished with 402 yards of total offence including 98 rushing on 23 carries.
Hamilton had 213 total yards of offence with 81 coming on 20 rushes.
The Argos were penalized six times for a loss of 60 yards while Hamilton was penalized 13 times for a loss of 134 yards.
The Ticats are to begin their season June 11 with a 7 p.m. game in Regina against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
The Argos are to get a bye in the opening week and start their season June 16 at 7:30 p.m. with a home game against the Montreal Alouettes.
