Arms topple Brew Jays to open RCBL final

GUELPH – The Arms scored runs in three consecutive innings to open the Royal City Baseball League’s championship series with a 5-2 victory over the Brew Jays Sunday night at Pearson Park.

After the Brew Jays opened the scoring with a single run in the first inning, the Arms responded with runs in the second, third and fourth innings to grab a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

The Arms scored two runs in the second, one in the third and two more in the fourth to complete their scoring.

The Brew Jays wrapped up the scoring in the game with a run in the seventh.

The loss was the first of the season for the Brew Jays who finished atop the eight-team league standings at the end of the regular season as they won all 21 of their games including 3-0, 4-3 and 5-4 victories over the Arms who finished second at 17-4-0.

The best-of-five final is to resume Wednesday while Game 3 is slated for Sunday. If Game 4 is needed, it’s to go Sept. 26 while Game 5, if necessary, is scheduled for Sept. 30.

All games are to be played at Pearson Park and all carry 8 p.m. starting times.
