Baseball Gryphons advance to West Qualifier final

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons are to play in the West Qualifier final in OUA baseball Saturday afternoon at Hastings Stadium.

The Gryphs got a bye straight to the final of the three-team event after scoring a pair of mercy-rule wins in round-robin play Friday.

The Gryphs dropped the McMaster Marauders 11-1 in five innings and downed the Brock Badgers 16-3 in eight innings in back-to-back games at Hastings Stadium.

Brock beat McMaster 10-7 in the opening game of the tournament.

Brock and McMaster are to play again Saturday at 10 a.m. in the tournament semifinal. The winner is to advance to play the Gryphs in the 2 p.m. final.

Winner of the final advances to the OUA championship tournament Oct. 14-15 at Kitchener’s Jack Couch Park.
