Baseball Gryphs remain unbeaten at championship tourney

AJAX – The Guelph Gryphons used five runs in the sixth inning to claim a 5-2 victory over the Ryerson Rams during play in the OUA men’s baseball championship tournament Saturday at the Ajax Sportsplex.

The Gryphs finished preliminary pool play a perfect 3-0.

Chase Nelson led Guelph’s five-hit attack with a double while Robert Wolfer, Alexander Devos, Brendan Callaghan and Tyler Randa each hit a single.

Hayden Adair and Alexander Fishback shared the pitching chores. Adair allowed two earned runs off five hits, all singles, in five innings. He had two strikeouts. Fishback held Ryerson scoreless and hitless during his two-inning stint to get the win. He yielded two walks and had a strikeout.

The Gryphs advance to Sunday morning’s semifinals where they’ll face the Toronto Varsity Blues for a spot in the championship match later in the day.
