Baseball playoffs to begin Friday

GUELPH – The start of the District 4/10 high school baseball playoffs will have to wait a couple of days due to Wednesday’s rain.

The quarter-finals were to go Wednesday at Pearson Park, but all three have been pushed back to Friday.

The Westside Thunder are to play the defending champion Centennial Spartans at 1 p.m. while the other two games are to go at 3:30 p.m. They feature the Guelph CVI Green Gaels against the St. James Lions in one game and the Bishop Macdonell Celtics against the Lourdes Crusaders in the other.

The Ross Royals finished atop the standings at 6-0-0 and they get a bye in the quarter-finals. Centennial was second at 4-1-1 and were followed by St. James at 3-2-1, Lourdes at 3-3-0, Bishop Mac at 2-2-2, Guelph CVI at 1-5-0 and Westside at 0-6-0.

The semifinals are scheduled for Monday and the final for Wednesday.
