Bears hand Falcons first setback in boys’ hockey

FERGUS – The Orangeville Bears climbed into a tie for second place in the District 4/10 high school boys’ hockey league with a 4-3 victory over the Centre Wellington Falcons at the Centre Wellington Sportsplex.

The loss was the first in league play this season for Centre Wellington. It was also their final game of the regular season.

The Falcons lead the league at 8-1-1-0 while Orangeville is at 7-1-0-0 and the Bishop Macdonell Celtics are at 7-2-0-0. The Bears have two games to go following the two-week break for exams and they can finish in first place. Bishop Mac has one game to go and will finish either second or third. The Falcons will finish either first or second.

Jake Quinlan and Cole Teeple each had a goal and an assist for Orangeville while Leighton Cooke and Andy Whitton scored the other goals.

Zac Tofflemire scored twice for Centre Wellington and Johnny Bauman added a single goal.

Wellington Heights received goals from Ethan Andrews, Evan Dewar, Eric Mclean and Will Lewis.

Lucas Cross and Owen Stemerdink scored for GCVI.
