Bishop Mac girls into AA hoops quarter-finals

LONDON – Another quick start by the Bishop Macdonell Celtics led the locals to a berth in the OFSAA provincial high school AA girls’ basketball championship tournament Friday morning.

The seventh-seed Celtics grabbed a 19-5 lead in the first quarter on their way to a 52-36 victory over the 10th-seed Birchmount Park Panthers of Scarborough in the second round.

Scoring details were not reported, but Maja Gadzinska was Bishop Mac’s winner of the game’s pride, hustle and determination award.

Bishop Mac is to play the second-seed Dundas Valley Gryphons of Dundas in the quarter-finals Friday at 4 p.m.

The winner is to advance to meet the winner of a quarter-final match between the third-seed La Salle Black Knights of Kingston and sixth-seed St. Mary Crusaders of Hamilton in a semifinal Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
