Bishop Mac keeps top-spot finish in senior volleyball a possibility

GUELPH – The Bishop Macdonell Celtics kept their slim chances of a first-place finish in the District 10 high school senior boys’ volleyball league in sight Tuesday when they defeated the Centennial Spartans 3-1.

Bishop Mac won 17-25, 31-29, 25-17, 25-23.

The win leaves the Celtics at 5-3 with four matches to go in their regular season.

Centennial, on the other hand, finished their regular season at 6-6 with the loss. They’ll have to wait to see where they’ll finish in the five-team league.

The Ross Royals clinched a tie for first place with a 3-0 win over the St. James Lions Tuesday. The Royals won 25-21, 25-21, 25-15.

The Royals have two games to go, both against Bishop Mac, and they stand at 9-1. A win in either of the matches will secure first for Ross while Bishop Mac has to win all four of its remaining matches to tie for first. If they do that they will win the tie-breaker with Ross as they will have won all three of their regular-season matches against the Royals as they did sweep Ross 3-0 Oct. 3.
