Bishop Mac soccer girls post opening-day split

TECUMSEH – The Bishop Macdonell Celtics split their games Thursday during the opening day of the OFSAA provincial high school AA girls’ soccer championship tournament.

The Celtics were edged 1-0 by the Notre Dame Fighting Irish of Burlington in their opener and then rebounded for a 3-0 win over E.L. Crossley Cyclones of Fonthill.

The results leave Bishop Mac in third place in Pool C with two more games to go in pool play.

Notre Dame leads at 2-0-0 and is followed by the Clarkson Chargers of Mississauga at 1-0-1, Bishop Mac at 1-1-0, E.S. Embrun Cyclones at 0-1-1 and E.L. Crossley at 0-2-0.

Friday, Bishop Mac is to play Embrun at 10 a.m. and Clarkson at 2:30 p.m.

Top two in each of the four pools are to advance to the quarter-finals Friday at 5:30 p.m.

Semifinals are slated for Saturday at 9:30 a.m. The bronze-medal game is to follow at 12:30 p.m. while the gold-medal game is to start at 1 p.m.
