Brampton Excelsiors leave K-W Braves behind

BRAMPTON – The Kitchener-Waterloo Braves surrendered five consecutive goals to the Brampton Excelsiors in an 11-5 loss in Ontario junior A lacrosse league play Friday night at Century Gardens.

The hosts held a slim 5-4 lead with five minutes to go in the second period when they started their scoring spree that lasted until just past the midway point of the third period.

Brampton had led 3-1 at the end of the first period and the Excelsiors were ahead 7-4 at the end of the second.

Scott DelZotto had a hat trick for the Braves while Jackson Reid scored the other two goals. Tye Kurtz had two assists and Devyn Orpana, DelZotto, Spencer Pyke, Reid, goaltender Steve Orleman and Trent DiCiccio had one each.

Clarke Petterson connected for four goals and three assists for Brampton while Tyler Mackay scored twice. Netting single goals were Seth Van Schepen, Jake Boudreau, Josh Medeiros, Austin Hasen and Campbell Parker. Jeff Teat assisted on five of the goals while Justin Robinson had three assists, Medeiros, Mackay and James Whiteford had two apiece and Hasen, Travis Burton, Van Schepen, Boudreau and Kyle Vince had one each.

K-W went 3-for-8 on its power play while Brampton was 2-for-5. Shots on goal were not reported.

Steve Orleman was charged with the loss in net for the Braves while Tyler Smyth picked up the win in the Brampton net.

The result leaves Brampton at 4-1-0 and K-W at 4-3-0.

Next up for the Braves is a game against the Orangeville Northmen Tuesday at 8 p.m. at Orangeville’s Tony Rose arena.
