Braves fall behind early in loss to Burlington

KITCHENER—The Kitchener-Waterloo Braves yielded the first seven goals of the game as their losing streak in Ontario Junior A Lacrosse League play reached six games with a 14-8 loss to the Burlington Chiefs Saturday at Kinsmen Arena.

Burlington led 8-2 at the end of the first period and 11-4 after the second.

Spencer Pyke had a hat trick for K-W while Scott DelZotto and Jake Stevens scored twice each and Devyn Orpana added the other goal. Jackson Reid had four assists while DelZotto and Kyle Driscoll had two apiece and Tye Kurtz, Trent DiCiccio, Cody Hamley, Quinn Commandant and Pyke had one each.

Hunter Lemieux and Jason Knox collected three goals apiece for Burlington while Ryan Lanchbury and Callum Jones scored twice each and Devyn Mayea, Chris Boushy, Ryan Smith and Patrick Kaschalk each fired in a goal. Lanchbury and Boushy had four assists each while Mayea and Smith had two each and Damon Currie, Lemieux, Nate Braniff, Dylan Laprade, Knox, Kaschalk, Steven Lee and Matt Wright each had one.

The Braves were outshot 47-44 and went 2-for-6 on their power play while Burlington scored on its lone power play.

Steven Orleman was tagged with the loss in net for K-W. He played all of the game except for the final 5:25 of the first period when Cole Martin relieved. Martin stopped two of the three shots he faced. Briley Miller had the win in net for Burlington. He had 36 saves.

The Braves are ninth in the 11-team league at 4-8-0 while Burlington leads at 11-2-0. K-W is to play the Barrie Lakeshores (2-10-0) Sunday at Innisfil.
