Celtics add to their senior hoops winning streak
GUELPH – The Bishop Macdonell Celtics stretched their undefeated streak in District 10 high school senior girls’ basketball league play to 17 games Thursday with a 44-27 victory over the Centennial Spartans.
The Celtics have won every league game they’ve played since falling 45-33 to the Guelph CVI Green Gaels on Nov. 3, 2016 in the final game of that season’s regular season. They won all 10 league games they played last year and Thursday’s win was their seventh in as many league outings this year.
Bishop Mac jumped ahead early and kept a regular rotation of players going throughout the game. The Celtics were up 10-2 at the end of the first quarter, 21-9 at halftime and 35-17 after the third quarter.
Maddie St. Denis led the Celtics with 11 points while Rachael Guanzon had eight, Alicia Higgins seven and Maja Gadzinska and Tyla Timlock five apiece.
Jocelyn Newby had 10 for Centennial while Jessica Zhu, Joanna Hui and Amy Gray each had four.

Cassidy Andrews netted eight points to lead GCVI while Tessa Ladhani added seven.
Brittney Hoang had four for Lourdes while Syd Benninger and Rachel Casupanan collected two apiece.
St. James 44 Ross 30
Grace Mencfeld’s 16 points led St. James while Payton Cathcart contributed 13.
Sarah Hopkins had 13 for Ross and Clodagh Stalker chipped in with seven.

Maddie Patrick hit for 10 points for Centennial.
Madeline Tavares had seven for Bishop Mac.

Eve Elford connected for 12 points for GCVI and Olga Llander followed with nine.
Isabella Banni had 14 for Lourdes and Ashley Ciccia added nine.
