Celtics advance to CWOSSA A/AA girls’ rugby final

OWEN SOUND – The Bishop Macdonell Celtics will battle for the CWOSSA A/AA girls’ rugby championship Friday.

The Celtics scored a pair of wins in pool play Wednesday to gain a berth in the championship match.

The Celtics edged the Grey Highlands Lions of Flesherton 26-19 and blanked the Holy Trinity Titans of Simcoe 41-0 to finish atop their pool.

Christina Nadalin had a try and three converts in the win over Grey Highlands while Kathleen Curran scored two tries.

The Celtics are to meet the St. Mary’s Mustangs of Owen Sound in Friday’s final.

St. Mary’s won both of its pool games, doubling the Paris Panthers 24-12 and Erin Raiders 14-7.

Paris also defeated Erin 20-7.

Friday’s final at Owen Sound’s Victoria Park is set for 3 p.m.

Winner gains a berth in the provincial OFSAA A/AA girls’ rugby championship tournament at Durham Region May 29 to 31.
