Celtics run away with senior hoops victory
GUELPH – The Bishop Macdonell Celtics moved into a four-way tie for first place in District 10 high school senior boys’ basketball after they dropped the Centre Wellington Falcons 78-22 at Bishop Mac Monday.
The Celtics did most of their damage in the third quarter when they collected 30 points. The score had been 18-10 for the hosts in the second quarter before they pulled away.
Bishop Mac led 16-5 at the end of the first quarter, 31-12 at halftime and 61-15 at the end of the third quarter.
Ben Pigozzo led the Celtics with 16 points while Hayden Schut and Nick Poloniato each had 11. Josh Davis contributed nine and Jackson Long and Brogan Furfaro chipped in with six apiece.
Zach Taylor had six for Centre Wellington while five were added by Na’yl Heeralall and four were added by Zander Periera.
The Centennial Spartans, Ross Royals and Lourdes Crusaders are the other three teams in the first-place tie. All have 2-0 records.
The number of teams in the tie for top spot will be halved Tuesday as the Spartans are to host the Celtics and the Royals and Crusaders are to battle at Lourdes.

Brandon Nguyen led Bishop Mac with a 15-point outing while Ben Dorling added 12 and Tyson Hamilton gathered 11.
M.J. Toppin had 12 points for Centre Wellington.
