Celtics, Spartans each get two wins to start girls’ soccer season

GUELPH – The Bishop Macdonell Celtics and Centennial Spartans both recorded a pair of victories as the District 10 high school girls’ soccer season kicked off with all eight teams playing two games apiece Thursday at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.

The Centre Wellington Falcons also finished the day undefeated with a win and a tie while the Ross Royals had a win and a loss. The St. James Lions, Guelph CVI Green Gaels and Orangeville Bears each had a loss and a tie and the Lourdes Crusaders were beaten twice.

 

Centennial 2 GCVI 0

Sam Caputo and Isabelle Beattie each had a goal for Centennial.

 

Ross 3 Orangeville 1

Hunyady tallied twice for Ross while Van Milligan had the other goal.

Scoring for Orangeville was Viveiros.

 

Bishop Macdonell 12 Lourdes 0

Kya Jacobs had a hat trick for Bishop Mac while Ava Long netted two goals. Single goals were added by Alexia Sutter, Sophia Sardina, Larissa Cristo, Ella Humphrey, Emmalise Ekunwe, Adrienne Fraser and Hannah Spears. Shaelynn Mitchell was credited with the shutout.

 

St. James 1 Centre Wellington 1

Maija Poulter had the goal for Centre Wellington.

The scorer for St. James was not reported.

 

Orangeville 0 GCVI 0

The goalkeepers who earned the clean sheets were not reported.

 

Centennial 2 Ross 1

Isabella Beatie connected for both goals for Centennial.

Brook Hoyer scored for Ross.

 

Centre Wellington 15 Lourdes 0

K. Pringle led the Centre Wellington attack with four goals while T. Hogenhaut scored three times and S. Sellers added two goals. The other scorers and the goalkeeper with the shutout were not reported.

 

Bishop Macdonell 2 St. James 1

Kya Jacobs hit for both goals for Bishop Mac.

Raquel Cuzen responded with a goal for St. James.
