Celtics, Spartans to meet in boys’ hockey quarter-finals

GUELPH – Both the Bishop Macdonell Celtics and Centennial Spartans completed their District 4/10 high school boys’ hockey league’s regular seasons with 10 points following victories Tuesday on the final day of the regular season.

Bishop Mac edged the Norwell Varsity Reds 5-4 at the West End arena while Centennial doubled the Erin Raiders 6-3 at Centennial arena.

Scoring details were not available from either game.

The Spartans finished the regular season at 5-7-0-0 while the Celtics were at 4-6-0-2.

Both passed the St. James Lions who finished sixth at 4-7-1-0.

Erin finished seventh at 3-9-0-0 while Norwell was eighth at 2-9-1-0.

Centre Wellington Falcons finished first at 10-1-1-0 while the Ross Royals were second at 9-2-1-0 and Orangeville Bears third at 9-3-0-0.

Bishop Mac and Centennial are to meet in the quarter-finals Thursday at 2 p.m. at Centennial arena.

They met once during the regular season with Centennial winning 4-1 at Centennial arena Dec. 8.

The other quarter-finals have St. James to play Orangeville at the Tony Rose arena Thursday at 1 p.m. and Centre Wellington Falcons playing Erin Thursday at 3 p.m. at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex.

Norwell and the Ross Royals are to play Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the Victoria Road arena in a game rescheduled from Thursday due to the lockdown at Ross Wednesday.

Winners advance to the semifinals early next week.
