Celtics tie one on to get first-place finish in senior soccer

GUELPH – A tie on District 10 high school senior boys’ soccer’s final day of the regular season was good enough for the defending champion Bishop Macdonell Celtics to claim top spot.

The Celtics battled the Lourdes Crusaders to a 1-1 standoff Tuesday.

Chris Qushair scored for Bishop Mac while Milkyas Teklebrhan had the goal for Lourdes.

The point for the tie pushed the Celtics a point ahead of the idle Guelph CVI Green Gaels who had completed their regular season last week.

By finishing first Bishop Mac gets a bye in Thursday’s quarter-finals.

Centennial 5 St. James 2

Ali Syed had a hat trick for the Spartans while Logan Lontok and Seungmo Gu also scored.

Getting the goals for St. James were Ante Kelvra and Adam Karauda.

Orangeville 3 Ross 1

The win by the Bears allowed them to finish fourth in the standings as it broke a tie between Orangeville and the Royals. They’ll meet again Thursday in the quarter-finals.

Jackson Gowing, Nicolas Paulo-Cabral and Noah Smith scored for Orangeville Tuesday while T. Ripley scored for Ross.
