Celtics up to second in boys’ hockey following slim win

PALMERSTON – The Bishop Macdonell Celtics claimed a 1-0 victory over the Norwell Varsity Reds in a District 4/10 high school boys’ hockey league match at the Palmerston arena.

The match was one the Celtics had circled on their calendars as it was one that had big implications in the CWOSSA A/AA tournament play.

Lucas Wells scored the game’s only goal while Ben MacDonald picked up the shutout.

The win put the Celtics into second in the league standings at 7-2-0-0 while Norwell is fourth at 5-3-1-0.

They’re the top two AA squads in the league.

Both have one game to play after the two-week exam break. The Celtics are to play the Orangeville Bears at Orangeville Feb. 5 and the Varsity Reds are to host the Ross Royals Feb. 6 at Palmerston.
