Centennial closing in on first-place finish in senior hoops
GUELPH – The Centennial Spartans closed in on a first-place finish in the District 10 high school senior girls’ basketball league standings as they edged the Bishop Macdonell Celtics 47-43 Tuesday.
The Celtics lead the league at 9-1 and a win in one of their final two games of the regular season will secure a first-place finish.
Jessica Zhu had 17 points for Centennial while Sarah Cobey added seven.
Alicia Higgins had a game-high 23 for Bishop Mac while Tyla Timlock followed with 12.
Ross 50 Centre Wellington 44
Kyla O’Driscoll had 15 points for Ross and Emma Capper netted nine.
Josie Hayward led Centre Wellington with 18 while Frances Wolkensperg contributed seven.
Orangeville 75 Guelph CVI 24
Maggie Franz connected for 22 points for Orangeville while Alicia Bowering had 19 and Alina Dineley added 18.
Eve Elford struck for 14 for GCVI.
Ross 60 Centre Wellington 24
Bronwyn Sweeney’s 30 points led Ross while Ailani Curvan gathered 19 and Maren Mau had seven.
Cassidy Tindall picked up six for Centre Wellington while Logan Jeffries had four.
Guelph CVI 38 Orangeville 19
Acadia Tremain had 10 points for GCVI.
Taya Williamson netted nine for Orangeville.
Lourdes 25 St. James 16
