Centennial seeded ninth for OFSAA West baseball

GUELPH – The Centennial Spartans of Guelph have been seeded ninth for this week’s OFSAA Prentice Cup West Regional high school baseball tournament at Markham.

The District 10 champion Spartans gained their berth in the tournament by winning the CWOSSA title last week at Larry Pearson Park.

As ninth seeds in the field of nine, the Spartans will have a tough schedule if they’re to qualify for the OFSAA tournament. Top two in the West will join the top two in the East for the provincial championship tournament.

Centennial is to play eighth-seed St. Charles Cardinals of Sudbury at the Pan Am Park Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. to open the West tournament. Winner of that game advances to play top-seed Great Lakes Lakers of Beamsville at 11:30 a.m. Winner of that game is to play again at 2:30 p.m. for a berth in an OFSAA tournament qualifying game on the winners side Thursday at 11:30 a.m.

Two losses eliminates a team from the tournament.

Loser of the Centennial-St. Charles game is to play Wednesday at 12 noon while the loser of the game involving Great Lakes is to play Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.

The OFSAA qualifier on the consolation side is set for Thursday at 2:30 p.m.

Other teams in the West tournament are second-seed A.N. Myer Marauders of Niagara Falls, third-seed Mount Carmel Lions of Mississauga, fourth-seed Glendale Bears of Hamilton, fifth-seed Pickering Panthers, sixth-seed St. Elizabeth Panthers of Thornhill and seventh-seed St. Peter’s Panthers of Barrie.
